Goal:  Listen to President Obama's Speech on the Importance of Education.  Discuss the importance of education.  Set an academic goal.
IC:  Warm Up Writing Question
IC:  Write down personal response to the following questions:
1.  Why is education important?
2.  How would our country be different if people did not have to go to school?
IC:  Class discussion over above two questions.
IC:  Watch the videotape of President Obama's Speech to Students.
IC:  Set an academic goal and define four steps to reach that goal. 
09-14 & 09-15 (preliminary)
Goal:  Be able to locate the lines of the globe on a globe and/or a map.    Complete step one in Kids2College Program.
IC:  Warm Up Writing Question

IC: BrainPOP Longitude and Latitude Video (5 min.)
IC:  BrainPOP North Pole and South Pole. (8 min.)
IC:  "Lines of the Globe" explanation--longitude, latitude, Prime Meridian, Tropic of Cancer, Equator, Tropic of Capricorn, Hemispheres (Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western), North Pole, South Pole, Axis.
IC/HW: Study Important Lines of the Globe Set 1 & Important Lines on the Globe Set 2  flash cards.

IC:  Talk about how 9/11 changed history.  Teacher relays personal experience and photographs from having been atop the World Trade Center and having been to Ground Zero.
IC:  Write down personal response to the following questions:
1.  Why is education important?
2.  How would our country be different if people did not have to go to school?
